MATT HILL | ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH
Promoted to associate head coach in June of 2015, Matt Hill enters his eighth season on the Kent State staff. In his second stint with the Golden Flashes, Hill returned to the staff in the summer of 2010 as a full-time assistant coach. A three-time NCAA qualifier at Edinboro, Hill served as a graduate assistant at KSU from 2007-09.
During the 2010-11 season, Hill worked closely with Kent State's upper weights, including 197-pound national champion Dustin Kilgore.
"Matt takes the approach that it's all about hard work," Head Wrestling Coach Jim Andrassy said. "His philosophy is to get guys to work harder than ever before to improve. His desire to make us the best is a big part of who we are and gives our athletes the best chance to improve."
In his five seasons since rejoining the program, the Flashes have had an All-American in five straight years and have claimed two MAC regular season titles.
Following his two seasons as a graduate assistant, Hill remained involved in wrestling, working with Seneca Valley High School and the Freedom Wrestling Youth Club.
During Hill's two seasons as a graduate assistant, the Golden Flashes produced 11 national qualifiers, went 29-8 in dual meets and captured a 2009 MAC regular season title.
While competing at Edinboro, Hill compiled 105 career victories, going 32-7 as a senior. That year, he went 17-1 in dual meets and won the 157-pound championship at the Michigan State Open. Edinboro earned top 10 finishes at the NCAA Championships in both his junior and senior seasons.
In the summer of 2011, Hill was selected by the NWCA to participate in its 2011 Leadership Academy.
Hill is married to the former Stephanie Novak.
