Assistant Coach and Camp Director Josh Moore

A two-time All-American and national runner-up at Penn State, Josh Moore
enters his third season as an assistant coach at Kent State.
While wrestling for the Nittany Lions, Moore was a three-time NCAA qualifier
and posted a career 13-4 NCAA Championship record.
Moore earned All-American honors in 2003, finishing third, and in 2004 when
he was the national runner-up at 133 pounds. He finished his career as Penn
State’ all-time leader in single season (24) and career (53) pins. He ranks
third on the Penn State list for single season (44) and career (146) victories
while competing in a school record 184 matches.
Moore also continues to compete in freestyle competition as he earned
All-American honors at the 2006 U.S. Open and placed sixth at the World Team
Trials. He claimed a spot in the semifinals of the 2005 U.S. Nationals and
qualified for the World Team Trials. He also placed second at the 2004 New York
Athletic Club International tournament.
Moore was a four-time Northwest Pennsylvania regional champ and three-time
state place winner at Franklin High School. He was named a national High School
All-American in 1999 and was a multiple freestyle and Greco Roman All-American
at junior nationals. While at Penn State he also competed in freestlye events,
earning a co-championship at the 2003 University Freestyle Nationals.
The Franklin, Pa. native earned a bachelor’s degree in Crime, Law, and
Justice from Penn State in 2004. He graduated cum laude and earned Academic
All-American honors in both 2003 and 2004. He is continuing his education and
working towards a master’s degree in sport management from Kent State.
Josh’s twin brother, Scott Moore, is an assistant coach at the University of
Virginia. Josh, his wife Shianne and their newborn son Joshua reside in
Cuyahoga Falls. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Assistant Coach Matt Hill
Former Edinboro Fighting Scots star Matt Hill joins the Golden Flashes coaching
staff in 2007-08. Hill, 23, was a three-time NCAA tournament qualifier and
helped lead the Scots to national top-ten finishes in 2006 and 2007.
In his
senior year at Edinboro, Hill finished 32-7 with a sparkling 17-1 mark in dual
competition. He won the 157-pound championship at the Michigan State Open and
then claimed runner-up honors at the prestigious Southern Scuffle where the
Scots finished in fourth place as a team. Hill was 105-42 in his career and was
part of five Eastern Wrestling League championship teams.
He majored in
criminal justice at Edinboro. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________
Assistant Coach Drew Opfer Former NCAA qualifier and Mid-American Conference place-winner Drew Opfer
returns to his alma mater in a volunteer capacity. Opfer, 24, graduated from
Kent State in 2006 with a degree in business management. He was a three-time
MAC tournament place-winner for the Flashes and was part of Kent State's 2003
regular season MAC title team.
In high school, Opfer followed in the footsteps
of his brother Jared by winning state gold three times. His titles came in
1999 at 119 pounds (5-0), 2000 at 125 pounds (11-6) and 2001 at 125 pounds
where he notched a first period fall in 1:15 for his third state crown. In his
high school career, the Sandusky St. Mary's Panthers notched three top-five
finishes in OHSAA D-III, finishing as runner-up in 1999, fourth in 2001 and a
state championship in 2000 - beating the second place team by 44.5 points.
He

______________________________________________________________________________ Strength Coach Bob Lemieux
Bob Lemieux is in his seventh year as a strength coach at Kent State. He is directly responsible for the year-round strength and conditioning programs for men’s and women’s basketball, wrestling, gymnastics, volleyball and men’s and women’s golf while overseeing the strength and conditioning programs for soccer and softball. Lemieux received his undergraduate degree from Kent State in exercise science and is pursuing a master’s degree in nutrition. He is certifided through USA Weighlifting and the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
